Six years ago I was encouraged by a couple of friends to start an online photo journal, Modusops.com. If you don’t know, modus ops is meant to be short for the Latin term “modus operandi” which roughly translates to mode of operation—like a criminal’s “M.O.” The journal became an obsession and I spent most of my free time heading out with a camera looking to shoot photographs to post. Early on I figured out that I was more interested in capturing real life moments than staged scenes, so instead of practicing setting up the perfect shot, I focused on documenting experiences and looking for the beauty and intrigue that exists in reality. Now—over 1500 images deep—I look back at the archives and so many memories come to mind. Modus Ops is my modern day photo album that is not only a record of where I was and what I was doing at a moment in time, but also illustrates my journey in photography and developing my personal technique…my M.O.
