“These are photos from when I lived in China for a year in 2013. The show is called “I Don’t Understand” because it’s the phrase I said most in Chinese (maybe the only phrase besides, thank you, & one more beer please that I knew), but also because I really just didn’t understand why people in China did some things, not in a bad way, but more of a fascination! Whether it be good or bad, I was in love with how different things were. So these photos are my observations during my time in China, one of the realest places I’ve lived. Sometimes a little TOO REAL.”
Lila Lee approaches photography as a documentation of life. With a BFA in Photography from Art Center College of Design, she does commission work as well as personal projects with the same approach.
