Finger Paintings by Kainoa Gruspe
January 5-31, 2018
Opening Reception Saturday, 1/15, 7-9pm
“Finger Paintings” addresses the use of photography as a tool in the production of painting.
Artists will use photographs as a reference to work from because it can be clearer and stiller than painting from life. These paintings poke fun at this notion, as they reference photographs that have been partially obstructed by a finger on the lens. Photographs like these, mostly received with disdain and discarded or put aside, come with the interesting side effect of inserting the photographer into the picture plane. The picture becomes a picture of the picture taker taking a picture.
